Amazon main image requirements: a practical product photo checklist
A seller-friendly checklist for white backgrounds, image size, subject coverage, and the issues to review before uploading a main image.
Start with marketplace readiness, not photo editing
A main product image has a different job from a lifestyle photo. It needs to identify the item clearly, fit the product grid, support zoom, and avoid visual elements that can trigger marketplace review. The fastest workflow is to check size, canvas ratio, background, subject coverage, and extra marks before uploading.
Use a square, zoom-ready canvas
For most ecommerce catalogs, a square canvas is the safest default because it keeps product grids consistent across marketplace pages, ads, and thumbnails. A 1600 × 1600 or 2000 × 2000 export gives enough detail for close inspection without creating oversized files.
Review background and subject coverage together
A white background alone is not enough. If the product occupies too little of the frame, the image will look weak in search results. If it fills the canvas too aggressively, it can feel cropped. Aim for a strong, centered subject with enough breathing room around the product edges.
